This is all due to its high power but a lightweight design that is aided through the magnesium piston providing a great power-to-weight ratio.

This saw still features the famous Stihl M-Tronic technology that you have come to know and love. This controls fuel delivery for the optimum performance for your conditions to ensure this saw is always working to the best of its ability, The Stihl MS 400 now supersedes the MS 362 as the best power-to-weight ratio saw in the 60cc class. The magnesium piston is 14% lighter, more kW, more torque and more power!

	Stihl M-Tronic Technology This innovative technology is one small step for man, and one giant step for mankind! The fully electronic engine management system adjusts ignition timing and fuel metering in all operating models. The saw during the first few cuts will take into consideration conditions such as the altitude, fuel quality and temperature in order to produce the most efficient cut at the time. It also makes manual carby adjustments unnecessary as the electronic start recognition can determine whether the saw is starting from cold or warm meaning there is no choke and just one starting position. The M-Tronic technology can also remember previous conditions so if it is used in the same scenario again it will automatically be at optimal performance from the first cut.
	Stihl 2-Mix Engine The result of this is a saw which is more fuel efficient while running cleaner. This is due to the the advanced stratified charge system that increases the power of the saw at the same time as minimising consumption. Resulting in increased fuel efficiency which is better for your wallet
	Decompression Value The decomp valve needs to be pushed down when starting which minimises the compression pressure when you pull it over making it easier to start. The decamp value is semi-automatic meaning that it has to be manually engaged but it will automatically disengage when your saw kicks over.
	Stihl ElastoStart Stihl elastostart reduces the shock caused by the compression of the engine when starting it. The shock is reduced by the users joints and muscles through the spring or rubber element in the starter handle making it more comfortable to start for the operator.
	Side Chain Tensioning On the side of the chainsaw, on the sprocket cover is an easily accessible screw to tighten the chain accordingly.
	Variable-Displacement Oil Pump This feature allows the operator to control the exact amount of chain oil they want for different conditions, allowing the reduction of oil up to 50%.
	Anti-Vibraton System Using a chainsaw always results is significant vibration causing fatigue for the operator. Thats why Stihl's anti-vibration system is an innovative piece of technology that sets it apart from the rest. The vibration system sees the oscillations from the engine dampened reducing the handle vibration.
	Compensator Is the process of the controller in the carby preventing the fuel-air mixture from getting too rich when the air filter gets blocked up. Ensuring the right amount of fuel is delivered to the carby while taking into consideration the amount of air coming through the air filter. This ensures the mixture is constant and in return results in constant engine power.
	Captive Bar Nuts The bar nuts are held captive to the sprocket cover, so you can't lose them when change the bar, chain etc. Although if you loose the sprocket cover this feature won't be much help to you!
	Stihl Ematic-System This automatic chain lubrication system ensures that the exact right amount of oil is applied to the chain at the right point at the right time. This precise system means less oil is consumed by the saw and increase the precision of oiling and optimum lubrication. The Ematic system can reduce bar oil consumption up to 50%.
	Advanced Combustion Technology The application of the four overflow channels swirl the fuel-air mix before ignition, resting in optimum combustion and very efficient output. delivering high torque across a broad rpm range.
	HD2 Air-Filtration This air filter keeps even the finest dust away from the engine, ensuring a particularly long service life. Thanks to its special material, the filter can easily be cleaned by washing, for example with STIHL Varioclean and warm water.
	Winter / Summer Mode By changing the chain saw from summer to winter operation, the intake air is pre-heated over the engine fins. This ensures that the carburettor does not ice up and you can continue working in freezing temperatures.
